Did You Know?

It is important to develop an appreciation and understanding of individuals who are different from us.  A respect and acknowledgment of differences will strengthen the social, emotional and physical image of those individuals and groups that face exclusion and inferiority.  By embracing diversity we can then begin to interact with others in ways that will promote growth.  Celebrating diversity encourages people that it is OK to be different and that everyone will be accepted for their differences.  It is attainable in our schools to foster cultural awareness and embrace diversity.

Character-building traits such as respect, empathy and equity are important elements to acquire.  Literature, art assignments and physical eudcation activities can all be implemented to have students understand and respect differences, as well as establish a midset to become empathetic and reflect upon those thoughts.  Those democratic practices will produce students that have a sense of validation, worthiness and importance.

Wouldn't it be terrible?  Wouldn't it be sad?

If just one single color was the only color that we had?

If everything was purple?  Or red?  Or Blue?  Or green?

If yellow, pink, or orange was all that could be seen?

Can you just imagine how dull the world would be?

If just one single color was all we got to see?
